Assignment: Hidden Angles
To practice incorporating diagonal lines in our composition, head outside to the gorgeous October light and find some hidden angles that will make your image feel more energetic and dynamic. You can find an angle, tilt your camera or try a combination of both.
Here is shot I got at one of our photowalks at the Calverton National Cemetery. Notice how the gravestones are straight sided with a rounded top, but when placed in the image in a certain way, they become a diagonal line that brings you through the image – and highlights how vast the cemetery really is.
In the sections where the line is not diagonal, it feels cluttered, doesn’t it? Another indication that smart composition is just as important as good exposure in photography.
Happy shooting!
Judy
